Carrer Opportunities At Muskingum Soil And Water Conservation District

Garden Coordinator

Urban Greens is growing with a purpose in 2022. Urban Greens has taken on several new garden sites and projects this year, and needs help to make it all happen! We will be growing produce for select food pantries in Muskingum County while promoting gardening, wellness and health to garden participants and the public.

The Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District (MSWCD) is hiring Garden Coordinators for its Urban Greens Program. The positions are temporary, lasting no more than 120 days, and part time, no more than 20 hours per week. The schedule is flexible. The positions are grant funded and will be discontinued by the end of October 2022.

Applicants must be 18 years of age and able to pass a drug screening and moving vehicle check. A BCI background check is required. Knowledge of or willingness to learn gardening/urban agriculture practices is helpful, but the most important things are a willingness to help others and a good attitude!

Each Garden Coordinator will be assigned to oversee a particular community garden and will work under the MSWCD Education/Urban Agriculture Specialist. The applicant should be capable of working in the gardens and assisting with the physical activities such as planting, weeding and harvesting, as needed. Garden Coordinators will help recruit volunteers and groups interested in giving back to their community, as much of the produce raised will go to local food pantries and others in need. They will welcome volunteers into the gardens and act as the liaison between the volunteers and the Urban Ag Specialist, reporting any needs or issues to the Urban Ag Specialist. They will help keep volunteers and the public informed of fun and educational events and may be asked to assist with or attend such events. Garden Coordinators will track the pounds of produce harvested and donated, and the volunteers’ hours in the garden.
